What an unbelievable week.

An utter honour to be working as executive manager of the absolutely world class ensemble @thephilharmonicbrass comprised of members of the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras and friends. 🎶

The players in this ensemble I have worshipped for years in their personal & symphonic recordings and to be around their professionally, warmness and incomparable music making was literally mind blowing.

Bringing along @flesselt for SCS consultancy for this tour in Austria to film portraits for the ensemble, interviews with Riccardo Muti and others, a new project with @dgclassics artist @maddalenadelgobbo and one of my oldest friends conductor @jonathanbloxham just took all the wildest ambitions and threw them in a huge stirring pot for 6 days.

Huge thanks to all involved - in particular the wonderful Paul Halwax. I cannot wait to continue working on this project for our upcoming CD releases and tours over the next seasons - watch this space…!!! 🎺📯❤️

Another week passes, packed with our first fishing

Another week passes, packed with our first fishing trip of the season (over 40 fish in our nets!), smoking the new cuts of beef from Haugaard Hereford, lots of gardening, renovations and student residencies!

Plus the next Fremtidens Lyd (Sound of the Future) with @vivianazarahbaudis making her return to SCS Next Generation presenting alongside art by @stevnsklintexperience artist in residence @johnpaulrossiart and a work by our visiting composer @mariannafilippimusic ❤️

Now on the road to Vienna where I’m executive manager for @thephilharmonicbrass (members of Berlin & Vienna Phil & friends) with three concerts in Graz, Eisenstadt and Vienna - via a little mountain tavern for the night in the Czech Republic (brewing since 1597!) 🎺 Also going to be sneaking in time for a special recording for @maddalenadelgobbo and her next album !

Privileged - cellists from Sweden, Denmark and Nor

Privileged - cellists from Sweden, Denmark and Norway visiting SCS this week, & I had a trip to Bergen and the Grieg Academy at Bergen University.

Two awe inspiring locations to make music in - both UNESCO world heritage spots, both full of remarkable history and people and both looking to the future.

Found time for preparing the spring season, gardening, planting mushroom spores, moving ancient rhubarb plants and collecting beef from the abattoir. Soon the fishing season starts again, whilst in the upcoming week we work building the new practice studio outside and take the boat off to the shipyard for a new roof (!).

Managed to find two trolls in Bergen to bring home to our two waiting at home 😅❤️

Fremtidens Lyd / The Sound of the Future: Scandinavian Cello School presents the next generation of classical musicians.

The concept is simple: talented musicians aged typically 18-25 from both Denmark and abroad are invited for a week's stay at Scandinavian Cello School (SCS). The musicians are either soloists or pre-formed chamber groups. During this time they have a fully immersed stay at SCS, which includes all their travel, board and lodging.

Coaching, team-building activities, and career advancement courses will take place side by side with alternative educational experiences that SCS is renowned for - such as fishing, collective living and helping in the vegetable garden.

The culmination of the stay is a showcase concert in the popular “SCS Next Generation” series. The concert is professionally video recorded and the musicians are provided with a short portrait film to take away with them to send off to add to their portfolios and use for their own career advancement.

What an amazing week, rounded off with the news Scandinavian Cello School has been awarded 225.000 dkk (30.000 euro) in support from Aage & Johanne Louis-Hansen’s Fond!

The last week we had musicians (and a dancer!) visiting from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France, Poland and Switzerland - with lessons galore, a music video shooting, Duo Balas-Wozniak in residence for a sold out concert at Stevns Klint Experience, and plenty of fun and food along the way 🥳🎉😇🎶🎼

The end of Winter, a FANTASTIC concert from @arionpianotrio ( @johannacmueller_violin @oliwiameiser @dariaioanatudor ), finishing up the bottom of the freezer before the new season (fabulous deer tenderloin/fillets), and lots of practice & practical work around the campus.

24.02.22: Russia invaded Ukraine in a major escala

24.02.22: Russia invaded Ukraine in a major escalation of aggression since their initial breach of the borders, started in 2014.

25.02.22: SCS initiated a huge social media campaign to facilitate the safe passage of numerous musicians from Ukraine into bordering countries - utilising a network of our musicians, many of whom were alumni of SCS. Selfless acts of kindness went on for almost a month as we tried to get out as many musicians as possible. We ourselves hosted 8 musicians on campus, supporting them financially with generous funding from private people and the local community.

It is unimaginable for us at SCS that the International Tchaikovsky Competition will take place in Russia in summer 2023 whilst Russian troops and Russian backed private military groups (such as the Wagner group) are attacking the country and their people and effectively stopping most of the music-making in Ukraine.

The argument that music and culture is apolitical is always a good one, but in this case is very hard to make whilst the directors of @tchaikovskycompetitionofficial are speaking out in support for the invasion of Ukraine: These Russian backed “artists” have received huge amounts of money from the Russian state to play or conduct at pro-war events that glorify the killing of not only thousands of soldiers defending a country - but also to celebrate the deaths of thousands of Russians who have been conscripted against their will to go on a “special military operation” - effectively used as cannon fodder.

For that reason and many other reasons we strongly discourage young musicians to be tempted by the prize money on offer to go and compete in Russia in summer 2023 and equally discourage professional jury members to be bought to support this competition.

This tragedy of loss of life will last for generations on both sides, pulling families and communities into a mindless and needless conflict.

Since the start and to this very day we stand with peace, we stand with the end of Russian aggression in Ukraine, and we stand with the restart of daily life for all - especially musicians - in Ukraine. Today we proudly fly our flags together in their support.

Scandinavian Cello School has been a proud partner

Scandinavian Cello School has been a proud partner of UNESCO World Heritage Site @stevnsklint since 2020. So when Stevns Klint Experience opened on the site last October, SCS was closely involved in creating musical experiences for a range of audiences from locals to tourists, young and old….even HM the Queen of Denmark!

We were over the moon as part of our collaboration to bring the worlds first ever @ph_pianos Grand Piano Curated Edition to Stevns Klint Experience. Based on the original design of legendary danish designer Poul Henningsen from 1930, it is customised to fit in perfectly with the building and location. The piano is permanently based at Stevns Klint Experience for 2022-23 and is used during Scandinavian Cello School concerts hosted in the building.  You can hear the piano being played by our super talented young musicians at the ten SCS Next Generation concerts taking place in 2023, hosted by Stevns Klint Experience - tickets are now on sale via the @stevnsklint.experience ticket portal or the SCS website!

10 concerts in 2023 bring some of the best young classical musicians from around the world to participate in the SCS program "Fremtidens Lyd" - which gives them free tuition, a one-week stay at SCS and a professional portrait film - culminating in an evening concert at Stevns Klint Experience. 🎥✈️🇩🇰

The best start to 2023 - WE ARE OPEN AGAIN FOR MINI-RESIDENCIES - now welcoming ALL musicians and ALL cultural visitors - not “just” cellists!!
Experience the stunning beauty of Stevns at SCS, just a short distance from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stevns Klint and work on becoming the best version of yourself…  WHAT/WHERE: SCS mini-residencies take place in a traditional Danish farmhouse, 1 hour from Copenhagen on the coastline. Collective living, free tuition, locally sourced or home grown food: Fantastic atmosphere and a real back-to-basics retreat refreshing both mind and soul! From the Spring we are going full out with a micro-farm projects (pigs, chickens, vegetables, etc.) and fishing from our little boat whenever the weather allows. All residents contribute to the running of the residency helping with whatever they would like - baking bread, helping prepare dinner, going to fish, gardening, etc.

WHO: Each year we welcome around 150 visitors from all over the world.

For musicians: To be eligible to attend you must have a specific project in mind - i.e. practicing for an exam, rehearsing for a concert, re-assessing your career options, preparing new repertoire, rehearsing with friends or a group, etc. Optional free lessons are given for cellists and chamber music groups. It is also possible to receive free career advancement coaching (work towards setting up concerts/festivals, application writing, career options, etc.)  For non-musicians: You should be working on a project of your own, in the past we have welcomed writers, yoga specialists, journalists, artists, architects, etc.  COST: A contribution of 35 euro per day towards food/running costs - but due to the kindness of our sponsors, scholarships are available for living costs (only for travel in exceptional circumstances). A scholarship should be requested when applying, stating the reasons why you need it.  APPLY:

Well 2022 was interesting to say the least…

🎶 Had over 100 students visit SCS, helped many of them win jobs, competitions and prepare auditions
🇺🇦 Evacuated, hosted and supported Ukrainian musicians for 6 months
💪🏻 Listed as one of the top 100 young entrepreneurs in Denmark by Berlingske
👎🏻 Got turned down for 3 teaching positions
🥂 Won the Danish National Radio “Firesoul” Award
👑 Performed for the Queen of Denmark in Jutland and saw her again in Stevns
👨‍💼 Appointed as Director of Culture in my ultimate dream job, then told the whole cultural program would be shut down 7 weeks after the first concert and left the job
🎻 Had amazing experiences at concerts over Europe and the USA - then had the next two seasons cancelled
❤️ brought music to 2267 residents of Stevns Kommune through local events covering ages 0-100
🧪 Got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and spent half the year in utter hell and pain trying to recover
🚜 Bought another field for a massive micro-farm project
💰 Raised more than a million dkk securing the future of SCS

Almost back to “normal” at SCS, with a lovely visit once again from @trio.vita culminating in a full to bursting concert at Stevns Klint Experience: seeing a fantastic improvement in this trio every time they visit as part of our Fremtidens Lyd (Sound of the Future) program - looking forward very much for their continued visits and coaching in 2023! ❤️🥰🎶

And of course, some great food and wine along the way with superb winter light coming to Stevns. Roll on Christmas …! 🎄😍🎼

Winter is here to stay and we are looking forward to our last SCS concert of the year on Sunday!

It is another “Next Generation” concert in partnership with Stevns Klint Experience - with @trio.vita who are supported by the SCS Fremtidens Lyd (sound of the future) program.

Following our sold out concerts on the same series with @cello.hannes , @annastasia_m_ and @vivianazarahbaudis we can’t wait to announce the next 10 concerts in the for next year - now with support from @statenskunstfond , W Hansen Foundation, @danskmusikerforbund and Soloist Foreningen!
